The Binge-Watcher’s Guide to Witches, Witchcraft & Wizardry

Here’s my feature story delving into how witches have been portrayed in TV and films, examining those portrayals via the triple goddess Maiden-Mother-Crone archetype: Through fictional witches, we explore society’s fears of how the disenfranchised, the fringe dwellers and the nonconformists might wield power, and — taken to the extreme — how they might enact revenge for their marginalization.

Supernatural’s Twelve Year Crisis of Faith

Here’s my exploration of Supernatural’s recurring theme of faith and redemption. The existential home to which “Supernatural” finds its way back, again and again, is how to endure and survive the bump in the road, the very bad day, the crisis of faith.

Because Sometimes An Unhealthy Obsession With TV Is Rewarded……

I’m very privileged to have secured a new side gig writing op-ed pieces for Tribune Media via ScreenerTV.  Please check out my first two pieces if you have a moment.   The first is a bit of a love letter to the show Lucifer, albeit within a larger exploration of the “guilty pleasure” phenomenon as it applies to our TV viewing choices (when it shouldn’t): The second piece explores the rise of the “trainwreck heroine” in TV and film, inspired by Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s masterfully wrought show, Fleabag: Will post future articles here as they are published.

Confessions of a Victorian Lady Cannibal

When I proclaim
that I love you for your brains,
I’m not complimenting your smarts.   I won’t ask you to be mine
on Valentine’s,
although I’ll have captured your heart.   I’m not impressed by your wit.
Not one word of it.

Adopted, Part I: No DNA Test Required

One of the first photographs I ever saw of my birth mother featured her smiling jauntily into the camera. Yet, oddly enough, it wasn’t the similar eyes or facial structure that initially knocked me backwards. It was the tee shirt she was wearing in that photograph.

Your Request Is Illogical: Save A Choirboy – Ride A Hoverboard Instead.

This.  This thing about the priest who was suspended for riding a hoverboard during Christmas mass because “the Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence”? A massive missed P.R. opportunity for the Catholic church, if you ask me.  The “Save a choirboy – ride a hoverboard instead!” campaign could have been HUGE………
