Vikings, and The Clash Between Clan and Cause

Wee bit obsessed with Vikings over here. (No, it’s not simply about the high hubba hubba factor, although that was a good guess…..) Prior to the Season 4 premiere, I was pondering why it feels so damn relevant. Given the current and horrendous political climate, following your heart over knee-jerk bloodline loyalty might feel awfully relevant to so many families and friends who’ve been ideologically pulled apart in these divisive times.

The Exorcist S1 E5: Is There A Pedexorcist In The House?

Yes, yes….loved the huge twist on last night’s Exorcist, but the smaller nod to the original movie via the rotating big toe is being overlooked in the kerfuffle.   #IsThereAPedexorcistInTheHouse

The Binge-Watcher’s Guide to Witches, Witchcraft & Wizardry

Here’s my feature story delving into how witches have been portrayed in TV and films, examining those portrayals via the triple goddess Maiden-Mother-Crone archetype: Through fictional witches, we explore society’s fears of how the disenfranchised, the fringe dwellers and the nonconformists might wield power, and — taken to the extreme — how they might enact revenge for their marginalization.

Because Sometimes An Unhealthy Obsession With TV Is Rewarded……

I’m very privileged to have secured a new side gig writing op-ed pieces for Tribune Media via ScreenerTV.  Please check out my first two pieces if you have a moment.   The first is a bit of a love letter to the show Lucifer, albeit within a larger exploration of the “guilty pleasure” phenomenon as it applies to our TV viewing choices (when it shouldn’t):   http://zap2it.com/2016/09/lucifer-fox-myth-of-guilty-pleasure/ The second piece explores the rise of the “trainwreck heroine” in TV and film, inspired by Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s masterfully wrought show, Fleabag: http://zap2it.com/2016/09/jessica-jones-fleabag-homeland-trainwreck-heroine/ Will post future articles here as they are published.

New Verb: Glennergize

Glennergize:  To be infused with an unexpected surge of new energy in the midst of a seemingly impossible situation.   Ex.:  After consuming seven espressos and that 5 lb. bag of sour gummies, I’m feeling surprisingly Glennergized about today’s plan to climb Mount Everest!
